Weigela florida

Weigela is a beautiful plant with showy, attractive blooms in pinks, reds, purples, and white.  I would consider it marginally hardy in central Alberta, and it is uncommon in the landscape.  On the rare occasion when I do see a specimen in a client’s yard, it usually looks pretty dismal.

I plan to trial this plant on my own landscape, with various exposures, protected and unprotected, in rich soil with adequate moisture, and see what happens.  It could be that this plant needs extra care to do well.  I’ll let you know.

I welcome comments from those who grow this plant successfully in Alberta.  Send me pics too.

Full sun

Unnecessary; deadheading may extend the bloom period.
